HISTORY |
- Bush’s Pet Food commenced in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville in the
late 1950’s manufacturing canned production in a 16 ounce (450g approx)
can under the label “Puss ‘n’ Boots” Meat Dinner for Cats
and Dogs
- During the 1960’s, production and sales increased and in 1966, a premium
400g pack was marketed as “Puss ‘n’ Boots” Meat Chunks
for Dogs.
- This product was relaunched in 1972 as Bush’s Meat Chunks for Dogs.
In 1975, the 700g pack size was launched whilst in 1980 the 1.2kg can was introduced.
- In 1985, with the local domestic market increasing, the Company was successful
in securing orders for the supply of canned dog food to Japan, which is today,
Bush’s largest export market.
- 1987 saw Bush’s Pet Food sold to Goodman Fielder Wattie (Limited) which
was short lived and the Australian New Zealand Meat Company Limited (ANZCO) acquired
the canning operation.
- In 1995 Bush’s had grown so much in domestic and international trade
that a new production facility was commissioned in the south western suburb of
Sydney at Ingleburn.
- May 1999 saw a management buy out of Bush’s and since, the Company has
grown in the domestic and export markets for pet food.
- In 2000, Bush’s diversified into the aluminum trays producing 100g and
150g and a new steam tunnel chunk line was introduced.
- In 2001, the introduction of an additional alutray production line commissioned
at Ingleburn and rotatable pouch line brought Bush’s Pet Foods into the
front line of supplying the world premium pet food in popular packaging.
- In 2003, the Company acquired plants producing wet pet foods in Pyramid Hill
(VIC) and dry at Forbes (NSW) and a substantial investment is being made to bring
both facilities up to our exacting standards to ensure top quality and maximum
capacity.
- In 2004, Bush’s acquired a new dry facility at Dubbo (NSW) and built
a chilled factory in Kyneton (VIC) and a second chilled factory on the Gold Coast
(QLD).
